Tame for utility first
A tame is not just a pet. In ARK, creatures can become transport, storage, harvesting tools, combat support and base defense. The fastest progression comes from taming creatures that remove repetitive work.
How KO taming works
- Choose a creature and secure the area around it.
- Build torpor until the creature becomes unconscious.
- Place the correct food in its inventory.
- Keep it unconscious long enough for the taming bar to complete.
- Protect it from predators and accidental damage.
Food quality changes the experience
Different creatures prefer different foods, and better food can improve taming efficiency and shorten the process. Before starting a long tame, check the preferred food and bring more than the minimum.
Watch torpor, not just the taming bar
For KO tames, unconsciousness is a timer you have to manage. If torpor falls too far, the creature wakes up and the attempt can collapse. Narcotics or other appropriate items may be needed depending on the creature and settings.
What makes a good first tame
Prioritize a creature that makes the next hour easier. Early utility usually beats early prestige. Ask: does this tame help me carry more, harvest faster, scout safely or survive fights I currently avoid?
